Derry, NH – On Friday, August 28, at approximately 7:45 p.m., New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified by New Hampshire State Police Dispatch of a dirt bike crash that occurred on the Rockingham Rail Trail in Derry.
Members of the Derry Police Department, Derry Fire Department, and a Conservation Officer with New Hampshire Fish and Game responded to the scene.
George Groundhoff, 19, of Ayer, Massachusetts, was operating a dirt bike on the Rockingham Rail Trail when, for reasons that remain under investigation, he lost control of the dirt bike, left the trail, and came to rest in a swamp. Groundhoff sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash and was transported to the Elliot Hospital.
New Hampshire Fish and Game would like to remind all riders to wear appropriate safety equipment, including a helmet, and to always operate within their riding abilities.
